Heart-A-Ween

There is a special dark holiday that I invented just for you, one where you can don your mask, and no one can see the truth
The truth behind the façade that you wear every day, the one that you use to disguise your true feelings regarding the one that got away
I’m speaking of me, I’m the one that got away from you, and for years you have tracked me down trying to make me see the truth
What you may not understand is that there is nothing left in me, I have fought you enough for one lifetime, why can’t you see?

I don’t want to run anymore, the truth is I never really did, but what you did to me then brought us to this
You’re the one that told me goodbye, just standing there emotionless like a stone, there was no life in you in that moment, so I left you to be alone
What did you expect me to do? You told me that I wasn’t what you wanted at that time, so I had to do what was best for me, I had to go on with my life
But now you’re back to haunt me, just as you always do, on this day, every year the chill creeps in, and then behind it comes you

You just stand there in that creepy disguise and you have nothing to say, it’s like you expect me to be able to comprehend what it is that you’re trying to convey
So, I just run away as I always do because what is there left to contemplate? You’re the one that said we’re through
But you always somehow get the upper hand and you get the best of me, just when I believe that I am out of your clutches, you turn the knife on me
You stand there trying to instill fear into me, expecting me to cry, but there will be no tears this time streaming from these eyes

Go ahead and taunt me, go ahead and take your stand, I’m not backing down this time, now I have the upper hand
There is only one way that I can ever truly get rid of you, so that this time next year you won’t be back to haunt me as you always do
I look into those eyes that I know so well hidden behind the disguise, and I can see the bitterness within consumed by all your lies
You did this to yourself and you only have you to blame, listen to me very closely, as I won’t say these words again

“I no longer love you, you no longer get to me”, So, go on with your pitiful, cruel self and find someone else to beat”
“Find someone else that will put up with your back and forth ways, because I have had enough to last a lifetime and enough of these painful days”
So, don’t expect me to be here next Heart-O-Ween when you decide to come around, because I have left you here emotionless and I have stood my ground
See the one person that you need to face is the one in the mirror, you see, and once you take off the disguise, the chase can end with me.
