Hear the Word

On this cold day, in the poor city slums
the sad, homeless families dwell
from the churches and missions
the compassionate come
bearing good tidings to tell.

Come hear the truth they share
how Jesus cares
with food and clothes for the young—
—their eyes are so lonely
their pain is so clear
let us show His Love from above.

Hear the Word, God loves us so
listen, listen, He wants us to know
Hear the Word, Jesus has come
saved us, saved us, from sin’s dark bonds.

All the angels are singing
the glories of heaven
and hope for a brighter life—
—with visions of splendor
and strength for tomorrow
all seen by the Savior’s eyes.

Though the Light seems far, far away
hasten, hasten, He’s coming someday
Hear the Word, Jesus has come
saved us, saved us, from sin’s dark bonds.

Laura, like Michelle mentioned, your lyrics are so consistent with the original theme of this tender song of compassion towards the disenfranchised and marginalized of society. Your musical side really shines with your carefully chosen words and how well they match with the rhythm and flow of the tune. I love the additional aspect of the love and compassion of the Lord towards the poor and unfortunate. Beautifully rendered, and a deserving win! Congrats and hugs ~ John

This is so moving, an excellent match for the tune, it is also a touching connection between feeding the birds and feeding the lost and destitute, a message we should all hear, especially at the holidays~
