He Wishes
The TV is broke,
he can’t get out to the shops today,
and Amazon takes too long;
it cannot deliver him a new TV
until tomorrow.
So he watches a tired old movie on his laptop
with the headphones on,
but his wife keeps shouting at him
because she thinks he’s avoiding her,
which he is.
She comes over, lifts the earphone from one ear
and shouts ”Do something!”
He smiles weakly,
wishes he was a squirrel up a tree
watching the wind move the sky around
in much more interesting shapes.
