Halloween At My House

A dense fog drifted in on us Halloween night
Adding to the thickening atmosphere of fright,
Fanciful spirit-like creatures presented a sight
From sheet-clad ghosts to Superman’s might.
One father, I am certain, was high as a kite
His little boy was dressed as a Medieval knight.

To my door came Dracula with a toothy bite
While, strangely, Frankenstein carried a light.
A cackling witch made my face turn snow white
My favorite was a tiny, three-year-old sprite
Who tried “Trick or Treat,” but never said it right
All in all, it was an experience of pure delight.

We decorate our front porch and pergola with lights, wispy ghosts, Mr. Bones, a life size skeleton, spiderwebs and a fog machine. I had planned to, but children in my neighborhood trick-or-treated in the middle of the week and I was expecting it to be Friday night, so, not having any candy to give out, I just turned off the lights. I hated missing it, but.....
