Half of Me
Dainty boots fell to the floor,
Cribs folded along with strollers,
Toys stuffed into plastic bags
Combs and bows off the shelves,
Everything shoved into boxes.
Body heat flooding each body,
Tears falling off two red cheeks,
Love could only do much,
But it was her body who had the power.
Each year, flower after flower,
No thoughts hit their minds,
Except for the constant fear,
Of losing everything all over again.
Thirteen years go by,
Twelve flowers dead,
Eleven boxes tossed,
Ten years of denial,
Nine months wasted,
Eight blankets to the bin,
Seven days of waiting,
Six doctors trying,
Five deadly surgeries,
Four heartbeats,
Three last breaths,
Two hurt parents,
One dead infant.
They used all their power to try,
Try for another,
But everytime they tried,
They found another flower.
A flower,
A baby,
A life,
A chance.
All gone in one instant.
