Poet's notes:
My haiku's always have a meaning that I hope to steer the reader toward. The idea that the reader should be left free to 'discover' his own interpretation and that I as an author should not care what this is, is anathema to me. Just shoot me will you! This does not mean, of course I want to control the reader. A poem might in fact reveal aspects of my personality that I did not intend to reveal. That is fine...

But this is how I hope readers will understand this haiku, this is my intention for it in any case, and the message that I hope an empathetic reader will take away...

We don't know what the artist is painting, but he is mixing paint on his palette to use on a painting in progress. These new colors suite his 'taste' for whatever the scene is to be and of course change with the 'season' he is painting in. But in this haiku first vibrant colors are suggested that fit the season and the artist's taste/ mood which could include bowls of fruit or fields of wheat. Both color and taste are part of Nature's music which includes mood enhancing 'notes' that may sweet, sour, dark or bright and color the scene unfolding before the artist's eyes.
