" GRIEVING HEART " MY PHOTO, ©

On Valentine's day
A grieving heart Cupid approached and thus
It spoke:
"Come, oh Cupid,
You winged child of Venus and Mercury,
come
and tell me, once more,
why
should I, willingly, offer myself as a target again
for
your sharp arrows of love to practice on?"
"Have you forgotten the times your sweet arrows have
failed to keep their promises of bliss
but
instead have brought me lots of excruciating pain?"
Surprised Cupid,
Looked at the complaining heart and austerely thus
Replied:
" Oh, you foolish heart
First, you ought to know
that
the target my arrows never miss
and
if sometimes seems that they do so
please don't assume that it is my mistake
for
I always aim at the target you, yourself, so
enthusiastically to me present each time
declaring
your every infatuation
as
your eternal love to be
however,
if you had avoided this tactic and
more cautious you were
I assure you
that
alien grief to you would have forever
remained!"
