Notes About The Poem

Green Sleeves - Bawdy Limerick Edited

Val’s daughter was picking her nose Then wiping snot on Val’s new clothes When Val finds sticky mess Of green slime on her dress The distress in her quickly rose Green bogeys all over her sleeve So slimy they make poor Val heave To resolve this issue Hands daughter a tissue But bogeys on dress will not leave! Val’s outfit that once was pristine Is covered with snot of bright green To compound Val’s distress She cannot wash this dress Dry cleaning should get her dress clean! each stanza 8,8,6,6,8 checked with how many syllables 3/14/19

I hate to see kids wipe their nose with their shirt sleeve. My granddaughter wiped her mouth on her sleeve and I told her to never do that again as it can become a bad habit. Your poem was well written Jan and I am so happy to see it on the winner's list! Congratulations! : ) xxoo

i'm delighted to see your name on the winner's list for this witty verse, Jan - Congrats! It occurred to me that the foto of the little girl reminds me of the politicians here in the colonies. They are sitting around pickin' their noses while our nation is going to hell in a hand basket - ha! Thx for your kind comment re my entry in the contest - Bob

Hi Jan, I have often seen children picking their nose and wiping their hand anywhere or on anything, no wonder in a nursery school, the whole class will be infected with mumps, or measles from one child's green snot! Well not only green snot, coughing and spluttering also play their part! Poetry hugs, Jennifer.

- Green bogeys ... I google ... And that's quite normal :) - "Green snot is most often caused by a viral common cold, which antibiotics cannot treat - Healthy snot is made from water, proteins called mucins and salt - It becomes green after gathering dead viruses or bacteria and white blood cells, which oxide and change colour with time " :) ... a completely normal theme for the contest, Jan :))) - Good luck :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)
