Graveyard
Aboriginal Graveyard 1953…Dirranbandi
Totem trees, were said by some,
The burial sites inside the gum,
Old box tree was a hollow one, (has wax like round green leaf, odd un,)
River Coolabah might just become
Bones tied up for a burial
(Kangaroo tail sinews done)
Alas poor Womba I knew him well
His spirit cantered off to hell?
They stole his bones but failed to sell
Take care old Nick! we wish him well (hollow trees used for fire wood in stove)
His skull was kicked around a field,
At Dirran. school the head revealed,
White skull with a single bullet hole,
From Twidale’s paddock was it stole?
( Bones tied up in some bark were there)
Placed in the hollow trees with care
Around the river this is where
The song was sung of their despair.
(True story of me very young:( )
