Grateful and True

i shall wade and sink into the sunrise lake
     of my own sunset, and in the penumbra
          of such ambiguous horizon, I shall be
               blissfully nothing
                   again;

for though I've drifted with the worst wayward winds
     and got stranded in the dreariest doldrums,
          i have kept undaunted and unshaken the faith
               in better things
                   to come;

and though the heaving halo of the sunken sun
     now sends thin shafts of shimmering light
          streaking through my lengthening shadow,
               I shall remain grateful
                    and true.
