Notes About The Poem

Grandma Burnout

Home sweet home on Christmas day. Children and grandchildren come, but not to stay Home smells of pumpkin spice, gingerbread cookies, ham and turkey in the oven Yeast rolls rising, flickering cinnamon candles, oakwood burning in the fireplace The taste of eggnog and wine, all that brings Christmas and everything nice Piles of gifts under the fir tree The grandchildren on their knees Poor babies, hate they have to wait They wonder when that would be After you eat before you can see, grandma said Dinner blessing, songs of praise, singing Christmas carols, voices in different tones, barrels of delightful fun Grandma sore to the bone and drained; leaded punch didn't help to ease the pain. Treasured and happy moments comfort from the day. Merry Christmas to all Poetry Soup family 12/26/2021

'Sore to the bone' says it all. I have no shame anymore, I guess: I just ask our guests to help my wife clean up --- and they do, amazingly enough. Here's to RR -- Rapid Recovery. :) gw

Ahh! The song used to say grandma a wishin' they'd all come to the kitchen to help do the dishes right away but as they are leavin' grandma is a griev'n but you can still hear grandma say. Ya'll come, Ya'll come, Ya'll come to see when you can. Ya'll come,Ya'll come. I really enjoyed reading this one.I did not do my usual thing this year on Christmas Day because I still don't have enough energy to even keep my house clean. I know I will get well but when is the question. Thanks for the visit. SK

Tom, I had a wonderful time a memory to place in my journal. I was so tired, and sore , I am still. Yesterday was my anniversary 41 years I would have been married. I had to reminded by my neighbor, that hurt, I shouldn't have forgotten. I hope your days are wonderful. Hugs dear friend.

Eve, I enjoyed seeing your Grandma Burnout at the end of this Christmas day. I get everything done early and this does not happen for me now. And the kids are teenagers and only want gift cards, plus we make simple fun dinners like roast beef sandwiches and soup. I hope you had a blessed day

We had a wonderful time, but I had to also keep an eye on my grandson because my son was ill and didn't show up. My daughter in-law also had a game to play , a ball the size of basketball wrapped in plastic saran wrap. all sorts of stuff in it like money , lotter tickets and candy. The only way to open with oven mitts. You start unwrapping with when the dice start to roll and you stop when doubles..
