Grace in White
I
There you are in your white dress
Marching in for all to see
A little taller than the rest
Incarnate joy and purity
Your father looking on with pride
As you come into your place
He’s reveling in this rising tide
Where you personify God’s grace
II
A few more weeks and you’ll be eight
We know we cannot hold back time
The World is coming soon or late
But I trust that you will be fine
Because I see your old man in you
The finest man I’ve ever known
A man that if he thought you needed help
Would give you everything he’d own
III
In fact he has god daughter dear
He’s given you all that he is
This is why I have no fear
For your image is his and His
I make to you this promise on your special day
To love you and support you as you grow into You
And as you navigate this world for one thing will I pray
When it gets tough you ask yourself “what would my Daddy do?”
To my goddaughter on the occasions of her First Communion and Eighth Birthday
