Goodbye Stephen

Goodbye Stephen, you brightened our way
With lyrics that said what we couldn’t say,
With music that touched our spirit, our soul,
You picked us up broken, put us back whole.

"With lyrics that said what we couldn’t say", I think that is the highest compliment a lyricist can receive. And he was one of the rare few on Broadway who created both lyrics and music. Loved your epitaph, Mike, especially the last line. Congrats on your win ~ John

Thanks John - that is very kind of you to say. He was a brilliant musician and lyricist. Just been to see the new West Side Story and was captivated by the masterpiece of the combination of Sondheim”s words and Bernstein’s music. He will live on in his work for many generations to come.

Thanks Charlotte! My favourite has to be west side story. I love the song “Somewhere” from the show - my teenage daughter and I used to listen to it on way to school. Also love “ Send in the Clowns” from “ A little night music” - Just wonderful !
