Good Man the General and Unspecific Rant of An Unhappy Man

They say I’m a good man You’ve said it too They say “You can count on him to do the right thing” And he does, And I do, Most of the time. With an undying sense of obligation, That drives this [irrational] God sized conscience, I do. What you don’t realize, And I don’t want to show you, Is that I can turn all of this off, Like hitting the mute on a droning rerun, I know this because I do it, I stop, I remove and I am in my own empty space, Where I can watch, At peace when everything is falling and failing, When everyone is running to save the lives they love, In my apathy I watch them fall, I can watch you all, wishing, and crying, and hoping, And laughing, and loving, Being, I’d like to feel it too, I do, But I know that if I feel, Everything that I’m supposed to feel, I’ll end up a drunk, Or a poet… And who the hell wants either? Michael F. Lewis xx/xx/2010 12/1/2012 I changed the name of this poem just for this delightful and insightful person... As such is okay but hardly great poetry."
