Golden Eagle
Gold glistened off its wings as it turned high in the air
Ah, it flies so effortlessly, it seems without a care
From high up in the clouds it spotted food below
Swooping line an acrobat a spectacle to show
With folded wings sped downward like an arrow in the sun
He latched onto a rabbit with his talons, on the run
Then I heard the calling of the fledgling at the nest
Strong wings bore the rabbit up just beneath his breast
Up, up quickly over trees beneath the pearly sky
Time to feed the growing young who very soon shall fly
Mom sat resting high in a tree not far away
So stately and majestic in the sunshine of the day
Dad fed junior rabbit meat as he pulled apart the feed
The fledgling sat to rest stuffed with all he’d need
So strong they are with power carried high into the blue
The golden eagle pair and now one more brand new
