Going wild about Clare Where hills lay barren, and bedrock’s stripped bare let me take you away to county Clare Huge cliffs climb sheer, dwarfing waves underneath atop the Burren my heart skips a beat With nothing to see, apart from the view all makes perfect sense, rain comes right on cue And whatever I feel, it’s in the air desolation yes, but without a care Where fields seed pebbles, and pastures reap stones through Clare’s vast rawness, I trek on my own A whitewashed lighthouse, beckons away scouring heavy seas, beneath clouds of grey Gulls are crying, as they happily do rising and falling, going nowhere too Still makes me wonder, where I’d rather be than here by Clare’s dolmens in reverie Later I take in, what nature left out my pipe, tobacco, and bottle of stout By David Kavanagh x10

Beautiful poem, David! There is something in the desolate that calls to us...perhaps peace.

Heya Ann, Indeed I find desolation can be quite calming and exhilarating all at once, especially in the wilderness of Co Clare, I’m delighted you enjoyed my poem, thank you so much for stopping by, cheers David

David , I see these cliffs and hear the crashing of the waves and see the gulls flying, and smell the sea air through your words . Beautiful! This view I visit many times while meditating…. It is so raw and powerful. I would love to visit someday. A fav ! Happy holiday week ! Susan :)

Heya Susan great to see you around these wild parts of Ireland, if even just in meditation, seems strange normally it’s you bringing us on incantational trips of sheer magic, I’m sure you would love the rugged windswept terrain of the Burren, and the invigorating air, thank you so much for the visit and Fave, I’m delighted with it, cheers David

Aw, "Through the eyes of an Irishman" When I was a boy 'round about three- I remember my grandfather sayin' to me- He said, "Learn to appreciate all that you see- For one day it'll mean so much more to you"- Well without realizing the words he did say- Sure it started me seein' things a different way- Just like the colours of the sun goin' down in the bay- It was a sight I'll never forget! --[Lyrics from the song]. I can only imagine thru your words David~Anaya

Thank you so much Anaya, and for your little meaningful poem as well, the bleakness of the Burren isn’t for everyone, but most that visit, oxymoronically find the desolation quite invigorating, cheers David

A very descriptve write, David. Although I have never seen them in person, I just had a lovely view. Nothing like a nip to warm the mood:) A pleasure to read!

Thank you Daniel, after a long day roaming the burren, you’re sure glad to embrace a pint of the black stuff, it’s a beautiful wild part of Ireland, weather-beaten by the Atlantic Ocean for countless millennia, I’m delighted you enjoyed my post, cheers David

Really beautiful David. I'm reminded of Ralph McTell's song "It's A Long Way From Clare To Here" You took me away to Clare's real natural beauty with such great imagery. Kudos to the line "With nothing to see, apart from the view" A truly lovely write. Cheers - Gary

That’s one great ballad Gary, it’s sung all over Ireland at parties, weddings, and even funerals, I rarely write about nature and places, this one actually reminds me more of your own works, and was no doubt influenced by them, that line about the view just seemed to demand it go there, thanks for stopping by, cheers David

David, I could picture it all in my mind even without your beautifully descriptive poem. It's cries of gulls I hear. What a gorgeous view.

Heya Jenna, if you like raw rugged good looks then County Clare is the place to see, even more so when the sea is raging and roaring below, cheers David

Love it David, you captured it well. Great that you put on the Poulnabrone Dolmen and Cliffs of Moher pics. Have visited both many times. A fave for me. Tom

Thank you so much Tom, I hoped you might like this one knowing you visited Clare like I have on many occasions, I was hoping just to capture the bleak rawness rather than the touristy towns, they’re quite beautiful too, but it’s the desolation I hanker for, I’m delighted with your fave, cheers David
