GOD ONLY KNOWS

songer.co/song/viootoniewxyj6ra7fsadyjk Verse 1 I saw your name carved in a dream I forgot to remember You lit a match in the fog of a long-lost December You walked the safe roads, quiet and confined, While I built altars from the scraps left behind. Refrain God only knows... What songs we lost... Way back then... God only knows... The silence where... They might have been... Verse 2 He put a ring on the ghost of who I thought you were I’m left dancing with shadows, listening for echoes that blur Your laugh still haunts the empty rooms we never dared to build I trace your name in sand, but the tide just swallows it still Refrain God only knows... What songs we lost... Way back then... God only knows... The silence where... They might have been... Interlude Ooh... Do... do... do... Lost notes hanging in the dust— Empty rooms, empty trust Do... do... do... What might have been... Verse 3 Songs we lost way back then—hidden behind closed doors Verses we never sung, voices swallowed by the floor Your smile’s a cracked photograph, tucked in the back of my mind A melody drowned out by a goodbye left behind Refrain God only knows... What songs we lost... Way back then... God only knows... The silence where... They might have been... (Echoes fade softly into silence)

This aches in all the right places—dreamy, ghosted love woven with loss and lyrical grace. 'God only knows...' hits like a prayer for everything unsaid. Beautifully done, Lyric Man.
