Global Warming Tanka

Encased in thick ice Sparrow shivers, sad demise Flowers had emerged Once colorful, now turned brown Snowy carpet for Easter Frozen bunny dies Easter egg hunts ‘neath snow mounds Sun plays hide and seek Bunny’s obit cites “death knell” Meaning of Easter recalled Ma Nature fooled us Groundhog needs unemployment The weatherman lied Al Gore has hidden away Ice age, not global warming

Both exist as the poles shift so does global warming take its toll. People who live with masks on their mouths realize that it is not just the poles they need to worry about. It is very sad what we are doing to our lovely planet. I enjoyed your though provoking poem Carolyn, and reading your views about it too. Blessings

Yes, the Earth has heated and cooled periodically throughout history. I read a lot of books on meteorology, oceanography and archaeology. Scientists say this cycle is natural, though the emission of fossil fuels will certainly contribute to further warming. Thanks for reading. Aloha to our Hawaiian poet, Carolyn

Congratulations, Carolyn. I enjoyed the way you included the Easter bunny and the groundhog needing unemployment. Al Gore is not hiding away, however. He is only trying to make us all see. The unusual cold weather conditions are simply characteristics of changing patterns in our weather related to global warming..hmmmm, maybe It would be nice if an ice age would appear . Maybe it would cancel out the effects of the global warming!!!

Hi Andrea, The European scientists who had backed Gore's global warming theory now say there is no data to substantiate it. I read a book called "Pole Shift" and the contributing scientists said the Poles are shifting again. That's how they account for the unusually harsh winters in the Northern States. Just food for thought. Eventually we'll know whether Gore or the scientists are correct.

Oh I am glad it wasn't this cold in Florida. We had sun but not too much warmth on Easter. Congratulations on your win. Love, Joyce

My husband's father told us years ago when he was a child that there came an ice storm in the middle of April..He said that they could hear the trees explode in the woods because the sap had risen and it froze..So nature has always done extremes on this earth..Way to go for the contest..Top of the list..Congrats..Sara

Even encased can we enlighten, or shall I say brighten....even in it's stillness... death, knowing soon nature that we love will soon be here finally to brighten and thaw what we long for; o dear ! though it's taken a bit longer, i can see the signs of nature sneaking in love! Have a wonderful spring dear poet friend of mine !

I could kiss you for this one!!!!!!! Of course we need to take care of our surroundings, and I would start in places like China where on some days they cant see 10 feet ahead of them cause of the smog, but global warming? , well now they say "climate change" It will happen with or without us. And by the way, I am mailing Al Gore my heating bill this year!!! Great witty poem!

Dear Arthur, I haven't been on the Soup for a while as I am struggling with a personal crisis. However, the subject of climate change has always intrigued me. The book "Pole Shift" was much like the move "The Day After Tomorrow." Scientists now say the pole is shifting to Russia. Florida will be okay. Cool weather is welcome here. But Canada and the Northern States should look out!

As an outdoorsman & nature admirer I'm concerned about this planet's fate with all its creatures within: flora and fauna. This poem depicts global warming in a very marvelous way.
