Getting Old

Getting Old They say I'm getting old, or so it seems. They tell me I'm retired, but I keep getting ready to go to work. I keep losing my glasses, I leave them everywhere. Sometimes when I go to the pantry - I can't remember, if I have to put something in, or if I come take something out. Sometimes when I come in the house - I can't remember - if I have to close the door, or if I'm just going out. I have lost a lot of things, that I can not seem to find, but the thing I miss the most - Oh my God - it's my mind. This old age business don't sit well with me. Don't you think, I'm that old - I still know how to play the game. I'm just old enough to know better...

As a young man I lost things and forgot things and never thought twice about it. Now at 63 when I do the same things my first thought is I must be getting old. Why? Because we've been conditioned Don't fall for it.

Hello Lucy, you are a fine poet, and i hope you will not loose your mind. However, you have the upper string when it comes to who's wiser than who?... I think remembering things is a hard task for all... not just the elderly... love your poem...LINDA

Ok my friend, you requested and for once I am able to deliver. I spent quite a time in writing it, and had to get some editorial work done by a friend, but the words are mine. I have completed my first spanish poem, not that there is much to be desired lol.

As long as I remember to pull up my pants after the bathroom I'm ahead of the game Lucilla, it also helps to not care about shortcomings as you are in good company! Love, Elizabeth

We're all getting older, the problem is normally only older people think about it, and the older we get the more we think about it lol. I'm not at the when I was your age stage yet, but I guess it isn't that far away. Nice poem.

Nice parable Lucilla - reminds of Taoism - 'getting old' means getting ready - J.A.B.%

I recognize myself in what you write Lucilla. - It is not age, we only have so very much to remember. - Lots of things to do at once! - (Regular glasses, reading glasses, sunglasses and even more different glasses ..... no wonder we can not find everything.) - Young in the heart .... young in spirit! - SMILE! - A nice poem Lucilla. - oxox / / Anne-Lise :)

I know how you feel, as you get older it just happens, out of nowhere...you lose it, you can't remember anymore! It's just occasionally at first then more and more frequently you forget! I know it happens, but why must we endure such a hard reality! I wish they had a way to cure this extremely common problem! Anyway, your write shows this subject very nicely, you've mastered the art of forgetting within this poem! I sure you've had experience with this as I surely have! Fantastic Work!!
