Getting Even

Getting Even

Vengeance is sweet.
Is it really?
It tastes pretty sour to me.

An eye for an eye.
Ok, so now both of you have only one eye.
What does that prove.

Revenge is like eating poison and waiting for the other person to die.
This is the best way to describe getting even.
It can be sheer suicide.

Vengeance is a dish best served cold.
I don’t like my food cold in most cases.
So, it doesn’t sound good to me.

With age comes wisdom.
I am old, so I hope I have enough
wisdom not to eat poison or cold food
or lose an eye taking an eye.

a wise observation, oliver! it's one thing to read about revenge in shakespeare, but quite another to hear of our supposed leaders seeking it out. it belittles them, in my opinion...

Totally agree Ilene. Kim said it best below. God is the better judge for revenge if needed. You may not agree but Obama and Biden did it as well so most politicans do it unfortunately. Thanks Ilene

"Revenge is like eating poison and waiting for the other person to die." Absolutely! What you put out, you get back.

It is for God to avenge, done with eternal wisdom. For us, we are not god, and only hurt ourselves. These things linger in the mind, wishing you could rewind time.

Hi Oliver, I do agree with your last verse being an old timer myself.
