Get Me Out of Here

Today has to be the strangest day of my life,
the arms that hold me tight say that I'm his wife.

I wish I could feel something for this stranger,
I'm so scared and terrified I feel like my life is
in danger.

Who is the man? How did I get here?
Why does he look at me like that? He almost
seems sincere.

Oh my God there it is again an overwhelming
feeling of fear,
My head is screaming really loud get me
out of here.

Who am I? Who is he? I can't be his wife
because I don't even know him or me.......

A very heart wrenching poem, Alexis. You wrote a powerhouse of a poem. The person in the poem seems to having night terrors, anxiety attacks or something along that order, I may be wrong. Strong emotional poem. A 7 no doubt and a fave. Love always.

I have a friend that has a father who was married for 70 years. He lost his short term memory and said to his wife, you aren't my wife...she doesn't glasses. It was so sad to have happen after all those happy years they spent together.Your poem made me recall their story. Heartbreaking! 7 ; )

Sinister, but this is happening every minute of the day somewhere. I like the last line, where she has lost her identity. Probably via a control freak. Great write, Alexis.

This is expressive in depicting a sad situation in life; not one that we would want to be in, but then some things could so easily get beyond our control! ~ Best regards, Alexis. // paul
