George Orwell

George Orwell, born in India and first named Eric Blair, knew poverty and sickness, so he knew life could be unfair. “Animal Farm” and “1984” brought him great fame. For his critical profundity, we recall his name.

Interesting guy, he was. You do him honor Andrea. Sad about your plans for a book...it would have been a hit, I think. :)

an outstanding Clerihew, Andrea. I've read those two books countless times...their profundity, insight, and wisdom are so applicable today, eerily so. Have an enjoyable evening, hugs, Sara

Ah you write these just flawlessly in ways readers can truly comprehend. I studied animal farm in highschool for english literature. I found it very interesting and now as i look around i feel like thats exactly whats going on all over the world. Anyhow, the fact that he was born in india, this i didnt know until i read this so thank you. And i didnt know he had a first name too. Ah this is very insightful, can see you are a teacher sweet andrea. Sending you light today and always

Thanks. I do love dispensing information. At one point, I and a woman once active here decided to create a clerihew book that could serve as a fun way to educate kids. We even planned to have someone illustrate the famous people. We would do chapters to represent scientists, writers, deceased celebrities and inventors, etc. well, this woman suddenly decided the world was coming to an end and left Soup. I had over 70 clerihews collected from various poets here and we planned to get their consent to have them in the anthology. Can you believe it was around 2012? Here we are a decade later and NOW I am thinking the world is ending!!

Well done, Andrea! You have, with precision, told Orwell's story and the impact of his work in four lines! Wonderful poetic crafting! If this is for a contest, best wishes! Blessings.
