Generational Rifts

Remember holding your first born child? The wonder of this newborn mesmerized you… Remember when they took their first step? How proud you were as they turned and smiled at you… Remember when they said, that precious first word? The joy of hearing them articulate clearly… Remember when they started school? How you held back the tears, they grow so fast! Remember when they started questioning you? You felt such gratitude for being able to teach them… Remember when the school first contacted you? The apprehension that others did not appreciate your child… Remember when they snuck out at night? The vigil you held waiting for that call… Remember the relief mingled with anger, time and again? How could you have produced such a contrary individual… Remember the full-fledged adult before you? The one you have loved deeply… Remember each stage of their growth? They still need you!

They still need you! SO TRUE! Our job as parents is not over until both feet are firmly planted six feet under -- which is where my kids are all driving me! lol. :) gw

Agreed. I still cherish my parents even though both are now deceased.

Somebody was in a reflective mood:) Yes, Elizabeth I do and much much more. Being a parent was the best experience of my life. I wouldn't want to do it again but looking back now... yeah it was great.

Actually, I had been reflecting on the early life and ministry of St. Francis of Assisi...a man revered throughout the Western Church. I doubt that anyone told his parents how difficult it would be to raise a saint. Thanks for your comment, Daniel...keep parenting those precious folks.
