Gambling On Love

Listen to poem:
Young couples every day Falling in love Casting their dice Hoping for the best Vying for true love Trusting their hunch In the love lottery Crossing their fingers Hanging a rabbit foot Throw it all on a gamble Never crossing their mind To have the conversation And ask what’s meaningful What’s important to you? What do you believe in? What do you want from life? AP: Honorable Mention 2021 Posted on February 6, 2019

Well, looking for the good in young people -- They're better than our generation, aren't they? After all, they don't have sex first and then (maybe) ask each other's name. LOL. (Remember that? -- even if you and I didn't indulge, we knew it was going on, … BIGTIME where I was, anyway. Ugh!) At any rate, you are sure right that they often don't find out the important stuff, but what good would it actually do? -- "Love is blind" has been around forever... Stimulating write!

Thanks for your most entertaining comment, Gershon, and the mini excursion down memory lane. I'm not confessing to anything. LOL ... In comparison, this generation is totally brilliant - living with mom and dad till the age of 40 - a relationship would only get in the way of a good thing. On the other hand, the way I remember things we couldn't wait to escape.

Questions we must all ponder as we go through our days; well done.

Weirdly enough, the people I know who have been married the longest, were married young, but they had the courage to communicate, and figure out each other before they married. The youngest seem to be the bravest when it comes to sharing their hopes, dreams, thoughts, and their truth. Your poem reminded me of this and made me smile, Line.

That is wonderful when couples make it work. Luck only goes so far. Thanks for your uplifting comment, Caren.

All so true! This poem is me, married at 19 without a clue about anything. Still together 43 years later. She is a strong woman.

Not everyone waits till they're 50 to get married for the first time. LOL
