From Where You Judge - Monorhyme

From where you judge I’m just an empty throne
  That rules direct in boorish monotone,
But might you try to peer beyond what's shown,
  You'd meet a boy who's scared to be alone;
For illness kept which roots itself in bone
  That turns my mind into a battle-zone,
Has planted weeds since early times I’ve known
  And aims to see my kingdom overgrown;
My clock’s confined unless from God a loan
  To wind my spirits that have never flown,
But short of that I’ll soon be named on stone,
  So pardon me for acting like a drone.

A very well written and moving piece. Doubly impressive given the strict guidelines of the contest. My hat is off to you.

Your write is subtly clever, Phillip. I particularly liked the line about the gravestone. I'm honored to share this one with you. Congratulations.

You're listed first so I give you the nod :) - I've not had a chance to read the others yet (ie it's been too noisy 'round here) but I'm looking forward to it! Thank you for your lovely words

I am probably too sensitive Phillip, but your moving poem has me choked up. It is written with such veracity in earnest. I see why it was chosen number one! It shines a light on your talent as a poet. I congratulate you on your first place and wish you well. Blessings, Connie ; )

Phillip, such a touching write, very difficult in the 10 syllable restriction, but you did it with ease. Congrats on a very worthy shared number 1.

Thank you John! It was a fun write. I figured it was one that would be easy to overthink so i just ripped the bandaid and did it quick. Really fun to do thanks again
