From My Diary: Sadness
July nineteenth, each year a single note,
scribbled reminder, lest I should forget,
'Janet's Birthday today' was all I wrote
although I've not missed sending a card yet.
But then another line came on that day,
unnwelcome visitor in icy blue,
'Anniversary Mother passed away'
don't need to write it but each year I do.
Why must this page be flavoured bittersweet,
heartless conspiracy between these two,
cruelly birth and death arrange to meet,
the date now ruined by their rendezvous?
This page may have a number and a name
but destined now to never be the same.
