From a Child
Something’s wild in the woods tonight—
Something crisp in the breeze.
There’s some sweet scent in the shadows.
Hundreds of creatures, hiding out
with eyes and ears wide open.
It seems to me that the forest itself,
young and true, yet ages old,
Is hovering here and everywhere
in a long, black, sparkling cloak.
