Friends of the Night

Friends of the night,
carnivore delight,
on padded feet walking
through a world without sight.

Fear is an ally,
light is your death;
in darkness,
cloaked secure,

you wait
and meditate on flickering shadows
whose weft and warp
become your feast.

Friends of the night,
there’s beauty in the requiem darkness,
but only as there’s light and life
with the rising sun.

So great that in your poem you already knew that the beauty of the night lies not in the serenity of darkness , but in joy of light that was to follow..Im sure you ve risen with the sun, dear friend.Sorry it took this long, maybe too long to find your writings in this bowl of soup...But Im glad I found this treasure ,still.

James, (hope you can see this from heaven). I don't think I even knew you were over here at Soup. Gosh I wish I had known! Perhaps I stumbled on one of your poems ages ago and have since forgotten? Anyway, if your wife is now reading this, I say to her, "I am sorry for your loss" I am sad to know you have passed on. I am thankful for my time to know you through PFT. You are in a better place, and those of us who knew you will miss you.

James, your wonderful poem expresses the harmony between darkness and light and how important both are to life.

Excellent tone.....I can see the eyes of the creatures that stalk in the night. Love the return to light. SuZ
