Friend Today Stranger Tomorrow

Hello, friend today. I met you beneath a baby blue sky with nary a cloud in sight. You had sandy blonde hair And sun bleached skin. I remember thinking if I was lost at sea your smile could light the way home. The sands were a beautiful tan Invitingly warm for our toes. Palm trees reached for the skies overhead providing shade for silly games. I met you for the first time there on that beautiful beach. After a swim we had our faces painted and spoke of our deepest dreams. It was a blossoming, beautiful friendship if only for a brief time. Hello, Stranger Tomorrow. I stood beneath an iron gray blanket of clouds As rain hammered on my umbrella. I had on a full rain suit and melancholy eyes. I remember wishing it wasn't raining so very hard and looking in the dark to find your smile. In the rain the sands were dark and murky Swallowing my feet as I walked. There were no trees here on this lonely beach Only sandy beach as far as I could see. This wasn't the same beach where I met you but we promised to meet here again. With rain dripping before my eyes I wondered if you ever achieved your dreams. Lightning lanced across the heavens and thunder roared But suddenly I found the smile to light my way home.
