Fresh New Baby
A fresh new baby, completely enamoring the entire family upon arrival,
Passed around, and oohed about, loved instantly and completely.
Her little eyes blinking around, fearful of the bright lights and weird sounds.
Wanting only her mother and father, as it was their voices she had known in the safety of darkness.
Cuddled and consoled, not by the old women wearing too much perfume and scratchy jewelry,
Who were fighting over their newborn grandchild, arguing about which side she looked like,
But by her own unadorned mother, pushing the strangers out of her room, so she could have her child back.
