I do like this fruit but it is dry and for some reason it puts me in my mind of Xmas candy like fruitcake or something. I wonder if there are fresh ones different from ones I get in the store

When I was in USA, Springfield IL, I used to have yellow fresh date (Barhi or bar7i) from California by post. For dry date, hot water is a good idea to make it like dough which is very good in cake or with bread.
