Four Years

lying in the tangled white sheets
hair mussed i can still feel your touch
where you loved me and i loved you.

your scar on the side of your cheek
a piece of shrapnel embedded
you said you'd come home in a week.

it's august now come september
four years exactly you've been gone
your heart forever within her.

A very sad beautifully written piece Lynn with a bit of a mystery. I never commented on this because it leaves me a bit confused. Your mention of shrapnel leads me to believe he has left for a military mission and has not returned but the use of the pronoun she in the end leads me to believe he left for another woman, or could it be that the pain is too much to use me in that context.

Hi Lynn, such a sad yet most beautiful write Lynn. You still have such a way with words drawing one into the heart of your canvas. Such a gentle piece singing with excellence. Just had to drop by for a second read Lynn. Hugs....Mike. XX Still a seven and now a fave.

I can feel the contrasting emotions that flow from the first to the last stanza, Lynn...from contentment to sadness. Unfortunately the final line suggests that he has found a new love. There must be lots of unanswered questions that tick inside the mind! Regards // paul

Hi Lynn, a short write but full of emotions. Once more you find beauty within the sadness and it is weaved into your write. Excellent work as always Lynn. You make the heart sing with your writes, whatever the emotion the heart sings and emotions come forth as one reads. You bring to life, in vivid imagery the pictures you put forward through your words. Your gentle words sing into the mind. There is always beauty in your sadness. This has to be a seven Lynn. Hugs....Mike. XX
