Is this about the festival where we took the bread and tossed it into the creek? I remember this so well...visiting with our Jewish friends and walking together to the creek. It was a very memorable experience, and I really did feel cleansed afterwards. Sorry, I forgot the name of the festival.

The Festival was Rosh HaShana. The ritual is called Tashlich. I'm amazed that you connected it with this poem, but... well... I can see the link now.
