Forgotten Valentine

I wipe away a tear as I
Walk home alone in the rain
As the flutter of my heaving heart
Loudly beat against the window pane

I push back the growing numbness
Oh but how I grieve, I grieve
That no longer you have no love for me
Something that stabs me deep, too deep

I remember how I shaded it red
The card for my Valentine true
The cake was sweet and icy blue
Like what you wanted. As you
wish it - perfectly good and true

I worked for days and nights to set
This special dinner for us two
I called on early to you to set
This special day, this moment for you

Love, you have written on the card before
I will stay with you till my dying day
And never would there be a force so great
That could break us
That could separate this heart that only beat with you
That would sing only for you

Where is that promise now, my love?
Where is that warmth, that kiss?
When today on Valentine you went amiss
Leaving me on the dinner table alone
Waiting in vain and still alone.
Alone in my sadness
Alone in my loving despair

The candle light is long gone
Burnt to the core - no more flickers erupt
So too is your love for me
The spirit has long gone
Has flown away, but the pain
The pain remains -

I want to say - no longer would I miss
Your ringing laughter
Your strong wide arms
Your fervent breath when we kiss
I want to say - no longer would it matter now
That you forget to bid me goodbye each day
That you would wince when I hold your hand
That no matter how I try
You would not look at me again with such passion
In your beautiful, beautiful eyes

Now the last straw -
That forgotten Valentine
I am sure. My heart is sure.
It will no longer look back again
I will walk further, further in the rain
Further on until I learn
To forget the pain
To drown my heart in this fiercely pouring rain
