Forgive Me

Passionate people invested fully
In what we espouse, believe we are call’d
To stand and defend against all comers,
Forgetting the fact that our spouse with fresh
Differing perspective has feelings, too.
Wound-up words wound when wild-pitched past
Suffering sensibilities, struggles
Of self-esteem under thoughtless attack.
Forgive me, my Love, I was boorish, mean,
Overlooking your exceeding value
As my challenger, sharpener, lover
Supreme. Strange, how it is that our anguish
Can be assuaged only by the one
Who offended us first. Let us be One!
