Forgive Me
As silence fell upon the night
My heart again did stir.
Petitions made on bended knee
Return to me unheard.
O Gracious Lord, Why do I find
Your absence once again?
The chambers of my grieving heart,
Hold emptiness within.
I cannot bear another night
Your grace, from me withheld.
Pleas rising from my broken heart,
In anguish are compelled.
His softly spoken words I heard.
My sobs, with them entwined.
At last, my Lord does speak to me
With lessons well defined.
"I sent my son to wear your shame
And on the cross he died.
Tho' turned away, I heard his plea,
FORGIVE THEM' was his cry."
"A gift, not earned, I gave to you,
Your sins tossed in abyss.
Now, with a speck that stains anew,
Your pleas are asked amiss."
"A sin you hide, without success,
All things are known to me.
Mercy flows not from your heart
For one that hinders thee."
"My presence is within your grasp,
I wish, with you, to live.
My mercy waits to cleanse your heart.
But first, YOU must forgive."
