For What Purpose Am I Created

For what purpose am I created, I
     oft' ponder? Am I fashioned by the hand
of God to know Him for eternity?
     Mankind was meant to increase and expand
in the lap of His love and Providence;
     ne'er to fall from grace by sin, but to live
in Paradise on earth for ages hence:
     to think, that for man all this God meant to give!
For me, life's neither meat, drink, nor pleasure:
     for I give Him my all in Poetry—
in flowing lines of heavenly measure;
     with rhythm and rhyme, and rich imagery.
How, then, best to know the Creator God?
By walking with Him, wheresoe'er I trod.
