For Carolyn
Something prodigiously deep, profoundly placed on the mind
Do not pick it up in a rush ... for often we see better when
No light impale the eyes ... let history here forget, be blind
Before you tackle the poetry of my esteemed fellow friend
It is not science fiction, the patchwork anxiety kind, it's clever
But have a factual base, a bold type of alternative prophecy
A cycle we forget, and so apparently a ship sailed by a dreamer
But don't you take for granted her beauty, her noble honesty
For something deeper runs, a truth beyond the common ken
A memory lost to the civilizing of men, a real spiritual zen
O let me alone to bask awhile in the sea of her wit, my friend
Give me years to ferret truths, and words as sweet for my pen.
