For a Short Time
For a short time I fed you breakfast,
changed your diapers
and taught you how to walk.
For a short time we learned to talk,
rode bikes and played baseball.
For a short time your eyes could
hide no secrets, your desires were
spoken your goals were clear.
For a short time we were a family,
you had a brother a step dad and
a mother.
For a short time you were well
loved among your family and
friends as well as school mates.
For a short time we forgot how
to pray.
For a long time you were taken from
me, because of my mistakes and
bad choices.
For a long time let's pray
we'll be back together,
I want to be your mother.
I want to feel alive again.
