Fool's Gold
Listen to poem:
My fool's gold of love's memories will stay,
washed by time, its deep stain will remain
From love's folly with my face on display,
years have passed on the long road of rain
That I could have known before the fall,
to enter your world with lover's intent
Find love a prisoner, my heart on your wall
This trophy you keep, your laughter's torment
The sadness is mine, to be found a fool,
used and dispersed for pleasure and gain
A love once grand you find minuscule
This heart you cherished you now disdain
Did your footsteps bend each blade of green grass,
an imprint left to explain away?
The game that you played, the tangled morass
The final moments when you would not stay
Could I have reached farther, grasped your curled hand,
when you quickly turned your back to the sun?
Would a final kiss ever understand,
love is forever cold, when there is none?
