Floccinaucinihilipilification and Very Little Soul

Floccinaucinihilipilification And Very Little Soul (Third and Final Poem- In A Parable style) Come on down here says the spider to fearful fly this day weather is so fine and I am your friend be free, and into my soft web, you shall not die for greater pleasure come hither, your time here spend. Now wise old owl looks on, hears and sees this charade and in loud blasts hoots out his own angry replies for mother Nature, hath all living creatures made within her heart of hearts hears all their weeping cries. Spider hears wizened, infuriated owl's blasts continues to spin deeper and deeper spun threads Fly sails on as if a yacht with windblown full masts trap now seen, his former pals in their web-spun beds. Spider feverishly works, other flies are caught so goes vicious cycle, dark webs eating their fill for flying blind, their souls are easily thus bought with time and darkness, their ink-heart blood slowly spills. Soon, escaped fly returns, so do ill winds of old time has done its job and all fear has left his head web is so pretty, its threads glisten as if gold vacated are those warning, fat and well spun beds. As those droplets lure fly in, owl hoots warning call but gleaming hope has turned off his sight and his brain in he goes, hungry spider watching sees it all giving thanks for those huge glistening drops of rain. Come on down here says the spider to fearful fly this day weather is so fine and I am your friend be free, and into my soft web, you shall not die for greater pleasure come hither, your time here spend. Now wise old owl looks on, hears and sees this charade and in loud blasts hoots out his own angry replies for mother Nature, hath all living creatures made within her heart of hearts hears all their weeping cries. Interesting take on it all. I'd eradicate spiders from the story entirely, any form, any genre. With regards to publishing, it takes balls and great faith in your work, but cut the spiders and their webs to shreds....self publish as an independent. I kind of like this poem. Will go read the first two of the trilogy.

Thank you my friend. Yes self-publishing is the path most will have to take and its a much weaker path, IMHO. The fact that modern publishers are deliberately making that a must is a tragedy. They are deliberately promoting a lesser standard of work and pronouncing it as being truly great! I've sen poems published That I'd be ashamed had I WROTE THEM AS A TEN YEAR OLD! Yet a modern publisher paid and then proclaim that poetry as being great!

Truly unique Robert, I like the spider and fly metaphor, this poem has a way of cutting in to the seam of the issue --- I shall not be caught by a spider! --- the reason they are publishers and not writers is because they can't write. I remember taking an English course at Carleton University, the teacher didn't believe I wrote my first paper, she said it was written by a pro. I thought it could be better. It occurred to me I knew more than the professor, so I dropped out. A fave Robert;-)

Thank you my friend. So true my friend. What qualifies these people to decide they will downgrade the founding principles/poets and promote an inferior version --just because it appeals to the greater masses and can be written without very much thought- just express (usual chaotic, disconnected)"feelings" with no rhyme , no rhythm , no message? And too oft no beauty.. As Susan so rightly said- "Your parable beautifully depicts your feelings of indignation." And truly it does! I share her, "want to believe, that appreciation for artistry and poetic skills in poetry will never die.." Perhaps shining more light upon this engineered destruction may prevent that death... Can you imagine, some of them denounce and ridicule Shakespeare and have removed even teaching Shakespeare in their college courses!!?? You did right to question the qualification of that teacher..

Your parable beautifully depicts your feelings of indignation Robert. Like you, I have to and want to believe that appreciation for artistry and poetic skills in poetry will never die.. Your trilogy has brought attention to and has illuminated this issue wonderfully and your commitment to the cause is commendable.. Warmest wishes and Happy Easter my friend!

Thank you my friend. I too want to believe that poets worldwide will waken and unite to defend its rich classic history-that which modern publishers are castigating, vilifying and abandoning., IMHO. All in a greedy and mad rush to appeal to the masses. I've always believed that poets must write the truth they see and let history decide if it suffices. Warmest wishes and Happy Easter to you my good friend.

Thank you my friend. I let my muse choose the way this last poem would be presented and she chose this one. I was tempted to override her decision but whenever I do so I always pay a heavy price. This trilogy of poems hopefully brings greater light to that which is going on in modern poetry. Somebody had to speak out about it, IMHO. SHOULD BE NOTED THIS IS NOT CRITICISM OF THE POETS BUT RATHER IS ABOUT THE MODERN PUBLISHERS.
