Flipped Hourglass

Flipped Hourglass

Bits of unwrinkled sand, harried ageless seconds,
Rush through a narrow neck
Pushing to birth
Moments of elegance or horror
Shoving aside other grains
Like words of regret flowing unrestricted
Into a ballet arabesque of transparent history
Irretrievable
Uncatchable
Lost like a tear drop in desert sea dances
Prodigals or prophets unable to caress or cling
Only rush headlong into the past.

When Heaven’s hand flips the hourglass
Second chances dash forward,
Free flowing jive of refreshed possibilities,
To animate a nameless tidal stream
In a cadence of options
That takes no long lost baggage
Through gravity’s flowing fountain
Irresistible
Unstoppable
Choreography of charity recaptured
That speaks in immutable tones
Of free flowing grace.

Each spiraling grain speaks of steps renewed
Waiting to articulate
Gliding strides of spoken blessing
Or pirouettes of consecration
As one grain falls upon another
In a transparent time window,
With intervals of oblation tarantellas,
Irrepressible
Uncontainable
Until the dance routine runs its course
Dancers lie inert to hear echoes of eternity whisper
“Save your last dance for me.”

Oh, so very beautiful, Sam. Each line is exquisite, but I particularly loved "Prodigals or prophets, unable to caress or cling..."

Ann, my friend, thank you. I am so glad you liked this poem. I did struggle with the concept. It lifts my heart to know these lines spoke to your heart. Many thanks and much gratitude! Sending you blessings! Just and FYI - the floor is in! Just a few more details to finish.

"speaks of steps renewed Waiting to articulate", "dance routine runs its course Dancers lie inert" these and the whole poem is very beautiful. Congratulations!

Hi Alexis! Sending you overwhelming gratitude for your lovely note of congratulations and your beautiful compliments! Thank you. It just seemed to me that even though we cannot capture the seconds as they run past us, every time the hourglass is flipped, we get a second chance. We are blessed with amazing opportunities! Sending you many blessings.

A huge Congratulations, Sam. What a magnificent ending with "Dancers lie inert to hear echoes of eternity whisper “Save your last dance for me.” Love your impressive style of repeating similar-sounding words - ”Irrepressible Uncontainable ". Another brilliant poem! Love and BW ~ Mala

Valsa thank you! I wrestled with this theme and kept coming back to the idea of new opportunities we have each time the hourglass is flipped. It reminded me not to squander those precious minutes. I so appreciate your wonderful feedback and your best wishes! Warm winter blessings to you!
