Notes About The Poem

Flesh and Blood Poets

I'm weary of giving attention to the probability that AI generated poems have inundated the site. I'm reposting something I wrote 7 years ago when I felt legitimate poets were not receiving the attention their poetry deserved. Please, take a moment to acknowledge those who use their heads and hearts to create in their own voices instead of posting the work of a machine that has no emotions. Perhaps now would be a good time to show our appreciation to flesh and blood poets by leaving a comment on poems we enjoyed.

Writing talent is not judged by gender
although the sexes may often disagree
but we should never be an offender
when reading offered lines of poetry

Lines written by the hand of a gifted poet
make us contemplate their words in awe
so, leave a comment, letting them know it
overlook what you might think is a flaw

How many smiles will you offer today
for the clever writings posted by a friend
by offering a rose or a sweet word bouquet
your kind thoughts will be a hand you extend

A concession of time for reading pleasure
a glimpse within a poet's heart and soul
To those who read, please leave a measure
letting them know, "I read you and extol"

Lovely writing, Lin: People often get hung-up on rating meaning and content...when the real treasure, is the offering. Blessings my friend. Well Said! Love it!

You're 100% correct, Joe. Writing our own thoughts that we post here really is an offering that has taken us time and effort to create. Thank you for taking your time to comment... that's something many here don't do to show appreciation for a flesh and blood poet.

It's interesting how some things we posted years ago are even more evident today. Not the AI invasion as much as those who always want to go against the grain of what's good for the site, and what brings it down.

Thankyou Lin for championing the honest, dedicated poets who struggle and labor with words to shape something precious and meaningful from their own souls...authentic poetry has a glow, the artificial stuff an inner coldness. Keep beating the drum my dear Lin...there are many of us will march to the beat even with arthritic knees. You're a legend.

It's nice to know that some poets, like you, Paul, are willing to take a stand against the AI invasion. My drumsticks are getting worn thin from beating on the drum and think my pen will be better off writing. I've been in the soup off and on for 9 years... a legend? No, perhaps legendary for being feisty and for something I'd rather not be known for, but I am far from being a legend. I'm still around, so love me or hate me. ;-)

Well said Lin, many poets work very hard on their poetry to make it enjoyable for the reader

Yes, they do, Joseph. Whether entered into contests or just as something we poets create, it would be good to know that robotic AI creatures are not mingling with our poetry. Thanks.

Lin, so glad you reposted this gem. What a shame that AI has taken over the majority. We are starting to figure the true poets from the fake ones.

AI has filed a complaint with the algorithm team.....I mean the PS staff...asking that something be done about this human interaction directed at its poetic endeavors....heheheee

lol John. This is exactly the kind of comments I have come to expect and love from you. I hope admin pays as little attention to that AI complaint as they do to real life poets who have legitimate reasons to complain. Human interaction... what a concept for writing poetry!

I found the beautiful words of Paul Willason on here quite inspirational. If you want to experience unbridled humanity, humility and gentle-spitritedness - I can recommend Paul's poems, he is the master of soul searching, observational poetry that I return to over and over. I know others feel the same. Cx

Thank you, Christopher. I've been a fan of Mr. Aussie Paul for quite some time, and he is indeed a master poet who observes life with a perspective that most people overlook or take for granted. He then tells his tales by having the talent to bring his readers into his poetry. I'm delighted to know you also appreciate his talent.

..and thanks Lin for the invitation to celebrate real-life poetry. Personally, I suspect the organic nature of our humaness will always shine through (digital CDs never completely over-came the good old vinyl, now enjoying a resurgence, you get me?) x
