It’s the day before New Year’s Eve And the minute and hour hands Clutch and hold on tight, As the cuckoo clock pings six times. Airborne towards emptiness, Fireworks whistle and hiss, Shattering the silence; Nothing to hold them back Except the dark And perfect moon. Different colour Dandelion fuzz balls Scatter, sputtering showers. Dogs howl and bark In the neighborhoods. My little Pekingese Trembles and whines Next to me at the loud Gunfire and booms. How many dogs will stay home? How many dogs will run away From the hissing, whistling, Snap loud ka-boom, and pop, pop And not find their way home? How many will end up in a shelter? 12/31/2020

Hi Eve my friend, they were actually banned this year, and yet I think there were more than ever before and you could hear all the dogs barking and whining and suffering. Really cruel, just so that others can be entertained and amused. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Hello Eve … NYE can certainly be a big problem indeed. Not only fireworks though; hot air balloons cause the same problems. - hope your little dog is better now - thanks Eve - Lindsay

I do so agree Eve. Don't take your best friend to the show. It terrifies them. Great job here. God Bless, JB I do hope you are feeling better Eve. Covid is nothing to fool with. Stay healthy and do as your doctors say. I pray your operation goes well. Keep me posted. I care. God Bless, JB

I am not much of a fan especially the deafening bangs, poor dogs have such sensitive hearing it must be so traumatic for them:-(thanks for writing about the bad side of the firework displays:-( hugs Jan xx

Thanks for this. I saw how our dogs were so restless last night... Thank God, they calmed down after we brought them all inside. Meanwhile, God bless you with a great 2021 all by His grace.

Eve, a lovely write, I found it emotional thinking of the scared animals, not just dogs, but all and children too and some adults, I actually hate the loud bangs and booms, but love the colors and forms, too bad they could not be silent, imagine how wonderful that would be _Constance

When young my daughter was frighten from fireworks. We rarely went again to view the sights. We have all summer with fireworks. and even a national competition. I'm always afraid someday as happened in the past some firework factory will blow up and people are killed. Past is past. Looking to a better future here it is already a New Year. All the best. Keep strong. Victor.
