Freedom for Americans did not come silently.
It came like firecracker pops, with guns and canon blast!
Rebel shouts would shake the world, and a glorious past
Echoes still in our nation's collective memory.
Celebration of our story comes the fourth of July.
Remember that our many rights did not come quietly.
At the height of celebration, think beyond the revelry,
Cacophony that rules the night, and lights that blaze the sky!
Knowledge must be passed on down, never to be lost.
Everything the patriots did, our children must learn why!
Revolt was loud. It sparked a fire led by a battle cry.
Sacrifice and brave souls' lives were our freedom's cost.

Andrea, I like how you tied firecrackers and the noise of guns and canons together, linking past and present. Congrats on your placement in my contest! Love, Kim

G'day Andrea... Independence does not come without sometimes a brutal cost so its great that the people in the USA will never be allowed to forget that. Your poem certainly highlights this - Lindsay

Hi Andrea, this is a fine popping acrostic. Good luck in the contest... on another note... Where's your drunken moon haiku? Have you read Carrie's drunken moon haiku. I think she drunk her way to first place with the best imagery (in my opinion). Well, that's my fav so far. I want to see you top this contest. :) LOL, I'm not helping close this contest. I wish I was, this seems to have lots of top drunken poems. @-> LINDA <-@

The cost of freedom is high and the author pays tribute to the thousands of brave men and women who have laid down their lives and continue to do so in order to keep it free. A red, white and blue salute to home and country. Emile. #7

Hello Andrea. A fitting write to celebrate the 4th of July. I think the children learn it in school. It's most of the adults that forget. Noticed that some of the laws being passed by Congress of both our countries are self-serving and with utter disregard for the values that molded the characters of those who fought for Independence. A pity... hugs!

Dropping by to greet you Happy 4th of July and here you are with a post in honor of it! I agree with what you say here, I think it can even be applied to so many other nations as well. Sad thing is sometimes, that freedom that was so hardly fought for is taken for granted. The celebrations become too superficial, and the meanings behind them get lost. Ok sorry for rambling. I enjoyed your acrostic here, Andrea and how cool, you used firecrackers, to remind us of the reason for the day. <3
