Fighting the Confusion

We all think he is strong

but he is crumbling
from the things he can't discuss.

His smile is actually his tears,
invisible to your eyes -
drowning him inside.

He is falling,
boulders upon his shoulders,
breaking his bones,

he claims
they are just the burdens of mankind.

He is in a place
he has not been before,
where silence is no saviour,
the voices are too loud -
but he is fighting the confusion

and he can hardly recognise himself,
nor remember who he once was,

but
he is trying,
to remain calm,
to remain horizontal,
but
he is tired,
cold like an autumn tree,
fragile like a winter rose.

He claims his poetry is no proof,
his poems are just pretend,
because he ignores those who reach out.

Unable to accept his vulnerabilities,
he continues to conceal the truth,

because he thinks everything will be fine.

Isn't it amazing, and sometimes scary, how the words of another can tear your very soul... This piece encompasses so very much of so very many. Hello S1 :)

"I'm smiling on the outside and crying on the inside"...words I once said to my mother and so I know it is hard, Z. I think it's called depression and sometimes we suffer in silence but those of us who love you understand and believe in you. You will make it. After all, you're English. "Stiff upper lip" and "all that rot", old man! lol You "bloody well" deserve better!!

So much depth, so much truth in this piece my friend. This rings clear to me my friend. And he admits not the terror* For its power would ever grow.* He walks within mists, sweeter dreams* Hides in waterfalls, falling streams* A definite fav..

I think you captured that sinking disconnection on osing the battle. The inability to stay vertical. Depression and/or not fitting in. Beautifully captured here and I see the passion and also the amount of work that went into this. Well executed in word, story, and pace. We all know him!

A man who cannot accept his emotions for a love that is free from his heart and free from his soul. How dare she be so free and far away from him a simple man who only wants to love her heart soul and entire being. God bless you my love forever and always.

This is what my nephew goes through. He says he smiles but it is not how he feels inside but he has found a coping mechanism..though he still suffers. Blessings, my friend.

I know the mask as I wore it once Silent. You are so good at expressing what lurks within.

A truly great and fantastically deep emotive poem. One that reveals the fact that the author himself sees very deeply into this dark world and the human condition we call life. A fav a gem

This line alone makes this poem a classic for me. "His smile is actually his tears," - I love an introspective vulnerable write, and this is probably the granddaddy of that!

We cannot be strong at all times. Showing emotions, letting them free, especially when the heart is all over the place. Truly makes you stronger. So beautifully written and presented. ~ Brandy

To step into a world that doesn't make sense to a person that is hurting and doesn't know how to repair it and their only way out in their mind is to open the door in front of them and close it forever sometimes.Enjoyed reading your work and so cherish your visits to my poems.Hugs Eve ~`*

I worked with someone who appeared confident and strong and yet took his own life , there were no indications' anything was wrong. It just shows we don't know what goes on in someone's mind. Excellent write S.O. Tom
