Fifth Avenue

From steppes remote
    luxurious mink coats
  Fine leather boots
    tailored suits

  Fancy shoppes
    five-star hotels
  Back of splashy nightclubs
    exclusive brothels

  Rolls-Royces
    and Bentleys
  S-t-r-e-t-c-h ... L-i-m-o-u-s-i-n-e-s
    cafes serving the finest cuisine

  Wide-eyed with wonder
    passersby gape
  Dreams of Fifth Avenue
    from tottering fire escapes

Ah, the American dream. Where the poor dream of being rich and the rich dream of being richer.

Ha, what a good story. Another knockout ending. I imagine all that from my back porch, too.

Good for you. I don't even imagine such stuff anymore, myself.

A very insightful poem, my friend. I think many that come to this country to experience the "American Dream". Most consider just having enough to live comfortably a dream. We don't have a supply problem on our planet, we just have a terrible distribution of the global resources. Have a great week Gershon. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

It is sad at the discrepancy between the incomes of people in our country and probably in the world. I would not want to be as rich as some people are though when they get terrible attitudes toward people. Thanks for sharing this creative and expressive one with us and for dropping by my pages. Sara
