This is an ode about Ukraine. It is the biggest country located inside of Europe or 2nd to the largest if Russia is included (line 1). In 2011, Ukraine was the 3rd largest exporter of grain globally, due to its very fertile soil for agriculture. That’s why it is nicknamed “The breadbasket of the soviet union” (lines 2 & 3). It has a large deposit of natural resources such as Iron, coal, gas, oil, manganese and other metals (line 4) but suffered the world’s worst nuclear power plant accident in Chernobyl in 1986 (line 5). The dominant religion in the country is the eastern Orthodox Christianity, which has strongly influenced Ukraine’s architecture, literature and music (line 6). The Borscht is a yummy beef and meat soup and varenyky is a dumpling filled with meat, potato or sweet berries. Both are popular national dishes (line 7). Ukrainians built the world’s biggest plane, a 225 Mriya (The Dream) that can carry up to 559.577 pounds into the air (line 8). The Trembita is the longest musical instrument in the world. It is a very long pipe played on by Hutsul ethnicity from the Carpathian Mountains (line 10). The Klitschko brothers: Vitali and Wladimir have held all world heavyweight Titles simultaneously (line 11). Lviv has the highest number of cafes/capita in the world (line 13). It has a “masochism-exhibition” café called the Masoch Café where you can ask to be put in chains before choosing your pervert cuisine or whipped with lash (not really harsh) before getting your dessert (line 14). The deepest metro station in Kyiv, going down at 105.5m (line 15). There are 3 official witch gathering places all named “Bald Mountain”. All witches, evil spirits and other paranormal creatures once in a while gather for Sabbath at each of three mounts with no vegetation on top (line 16). It is also the number 1 city with the most beautiful women (line 17) but marred by corruption (line 18) and a constant conflict with Russia which has now translated into threats of war (lines 19- 25).
