Notes About The Poem

Fearful and Perplexed

Fading sun elaborates
Tuscan yellow tinges
As vibrancy floats
Lavender on periwinkle
Embossing clouds
In shades of amethyst

Granting scenic vision
Atop the red bridge
Suspended in perpetuity
From vermilion towers
In resplendent posture

Sounding final appeal
From the complacent sea
Echoed by morbid hills
Seducing her fragility

Prompting her to leap
Gasping last breath
Fearful and perplexed
If there's solace in death

July 5, 2018
Placed 1st in standard contest #100 by Brian Strand
NOTE:
Since its opening in 1937, estimated 1,600 people have committed suicide by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California.

The bitter experiences of life drive some people to end their life to silence all the pangs ! Had they paused a moment to reflect, perhaps the tragedy could have been averted ! A soul stirring write...full of pathos. Reading about the beauty that surrounded, never expected such a tragic closing!

Hi Vijay, such a beautiful piece of poetry within its sadness. Much belated congratulations on a well deserved win. Such wonderful, descriptive lines that paint such powerful imagery. Oh what pain, to drive people to end their days. You express the thoughts so well in this awesome piece my friend. This gem does touch the heart so gently. Have a wonderful Saturday. Your friend always....Mike. A Fave.

Hello Vijay!! Congratulations on your win!! It's great to see that your quite excellent free verse here made on the Best New Poems List. The words, descriptive images, and the overarching metaphor of impending death arrayed throughout the four stanzas of your poem give the reader (and this reader too), a pause to reflect on a person's decision to end her life. I've driven across the Golden Gate Bridge in SF a number of times. It's a long way down to the water!! Superb Poem!! A FAVE!! Best, Gary

A splendid image, though it is enhancing the idea of death! You brilliantly fashioned an imagery tempting to those who have chosen to "gasp their last breath" on that bridge! A captivating write dear Vijay! A great pleasure to read. A FAV. Congratulations on your outstanding win! Stay safe and blessed always.
