Fathers

Far too many of these absentee fathers believe that they can plant a seed and harvest
a decent crop (child) without ever hoeing a row or pulling a weed (having any
involvement in their lives).

Hi, Donald. You were kind enough to visit my poem, 'The Music of Silence' so I thought I would check out your writes and, perhaps, get to know you a little better. I really like this poem. It says a lot metaphorically. My son grew up without his father and it is a shame that they both missed out on so much. Your thoughts are well represented in this work. : ) Janece

Perhaps it should be a crime , to plant so many seeds yet put in no time. Yet it seems to be the new treat, to have some fun but when child appears make a hasty retreat. 7....

Interesting work Donald. Those who can only satisfy the biological imperative are perhaps not suited to the rest of the job?

Thank you sir for the comment. I truly believe that if you plant the seed you need to tend the crop.

Thank you for commenting on this write. We as a nation need to get fathers back in the household and in their children's lives. Happy New Year.

You speak the truth, we should all be better farmers when it comes to our children. Merry Christmas Donald.

Wow, that's quite a statement! Not so sure it's a Free verse though, more a Prose. Incidentally I'm not a father, and my marriage is nearly long enough for any kids to be thinking of leaving home, so no hard feelings.

I also believe that absent fathers miss many blessings of being present with their children. As a father of three girls, my life has been enriched by their love. Great write.

Thank you for your comment as that means a lot. We also raised 3 daughters plus a son. We got a lot of gray hair but they all are fine adults and parents.

I grew up not knowing my father, and I think my life might be a lot different, if he had been there.... It is sad that so many do not step up and claim the responsibility that is theirs.... You have written the perfect metaphor here, Donald. Really well done!
